Magnet School Information |

What are magnet schools?
Magnets are schools of choice which offer expanded educational opportunities for students in the Jonesboro School District. The schools are built around specialized themes and offer in-depth experience and study in specific areas.
Do the magnets follow the district curriculum?
YES. The basic curriculum for all Jonesboro Elementary schools is designed around the Arkansas Frameworks. These expectations are identical in all Jonesboro schools.
Can I ride a bus from my neighborhood school to my new school?
Yes. The district will provide a shuttle service for students choosing a school outside their present neighborhood zone.
If I have more than one child, can they all attend the same school? Can they attend different schools?
Yes. When registering, sibling preference will be given when a brother or sister is currently attending and will still be attending the school to which the applicant is applying. Since transportation will be available, parents can also select to send their students to different schools based on the preference of each child.
If my child is not happy with his/her choice, can we change schools?
Students will be given the opportunity in the spring of each year to either commit to staying at their present school or making application to a new school. Once a student has begun the year, he/she will need to complete that school year before moving to another school.
Who can attend a magnet school?
Any student residing in the Jonesboro District is eligible to attend a magnet school. Students outside the Jonesboro District may apply to attend a magnet school by completing legal transfer papers or a Freedom of Choice application, pending board approval.
